Carole King to Release New Holiday Album
The holiday season is coming early for Carole King. The quintessential singer-songwriter reveals to Billboard.com that she’s releasing her first-ever festive record — aptly titled “A Holiday Carole” — on November 1.
“A Holiday Carole” features songs traditional (“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “Carol of the Bells,” “Sleigh Ride”) as well as original holiday tunes, on which King collaborated with the likes of Guy Chambers (best known for his work with Robbie Williams).
The album, out via Hear Music/Concord Music Group, will feature 12 songs that span an array of musical styles, including the Latin-tinged “Christmas In Paradise” and the jazzy “Chanukah Prayer.” King’s daughter, Louise Goffin, co-wrote original tracks and produced the entire album, which feautres vocal additions from her grandson.
King’s holiday set will act as a follow-up to the successful “Live at the Troubadour,” a recording of King’s 2007 performance with James Taylor at the legendary Los Angeles venue. The live record debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 last May and spent 37 weeks on the chart. The album has sold 606,000 stateside, according to Nielsen SoundScan, making it King’s best-selling album since SoundScan began tracking data in 1991.
The announcement of “A Holiday Carole” comes on the heels of more exciting news for the Grammy-winning “Tapestry” songstress; her memoir, “A Natural Woman,” is slated for a 2012 release.
